Credits expand access to carbon markets for family forest owners, delivers revenue directly to rural landowners
CHATTANOOGA, TN, UNITED STATES, September 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — LandYield announces its first issuance of verified forest carbon credits through the carbon registry ACR, empowering small family forest owners to join the forest carbon market and earn revenue.
The issuance follows years of LandYield investment, backed by Silvania, to develop the science, remote sensing tools, and online systems needed to lower costs and make forest carbon finance accessible to landowners historically excluded from the market due to high costs and complex requirements. In less than three years, hundreds of landowners across 25 states have enrolled in LandYield’s program.
“This issuance proves small family forest owners can participate in high-integrity carbon markets and climate finance can flow directly into rural communities,” said Josh Fain, Director of LandYield. “These credits help landowners earn income from stewardship, protect wildlife habitat and water quality, and keep forests intact and in the family for future generations.”
LandYield’s first credits are generated from privately owned forests across Appalachia and the Eastern United States, where participating family forest owners are paid to defer commercial timber harvests and increase the health and ecological value of their forests.
“Every credit represents a landowner who made a commitment to keep trees growing, protect the character of their land, and generate income from conservation,” said Josh Fain, Director of LandYield. “That is the kind of democratic climate solution the carbon market should be working to scale.”
The issuance comes at a pivotal moment for the forest carbon market, as buyers increasingly seek credits that combine strong carbon accounting with tangible benefits for communities, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience. LandYield provides corporations with the opportunity to address ongoing emissions while delivering economic benefits to the communities in which they operate.
“For too long, these landowners have carried the costs of stewardship without access to the same conservation finance tools available to larger landowners,” said Fain. “This issuance demonstrates that small family forest owners can be fairly compensated when increasing carbon stocks and protecting important forest habitat.”
“This issuance to LandYield represents an important step forward for family woodland owners in the United States,” said Dr. Kurt Krapfl, ACR Forestry Director. “It is a priority for ACR to provide solutions for families to be able to use carbon market finance as a way to keep their forests standing and in family ownership. Today’s issuance creates another pathway to do just that.”
“The LandYield Program has given us a great option to help pay the expenses associated with property ownership,” said Emmett Beers, a LandYield partner landowner in Alabama. “While some neighbors choose to clear-cut trees, removing hardwood forests for a lifetime, we want our property with beautiful forests to be enjoyed by our family for many years to come. And the LandYield Program complements our vision for our property.”
LandYield’s issued credits have been assigned a rating of BBB from an independent rating agency reflecting recognition of LandYield’s project carbon accounting, additionality, and overall integrity.
LandYield has enrolled hundreds of landowners across 25 states since 2023, when the program launched for private family forest owners using an ACR-approved methodology for small non-industrial private forestlands.
